Tantojutsu

Tantōjutsu (短刀術), also known as Kaikenjutsu, is the Samurai knife fighting system. Historically there are a variety of traditional knife fighting systems utilizing tantō, which include throwing. The tanto was used by the samurai class in Japan. It was useful for self-defense in indoor close spaces where the katana (long blade) and wakizashi (short sword) were either banned or too large to use. Women carried them in their kimono either in a pocket-like space (futokoro) or in the sleeve pouch (tamoto) for self-defense and for ritual suicide.

Tantojutsu Basic Training is divided into multiple levels of training. As one becomes familiar with the basics they move on until the tanto training evolves into an entire art all on its own.
